NADZ ARTZ

Artist Bio
My name is Nadia Martin (or NADZ) and I am a visual artist from Arvada, Colorado specializing in drawing and painting, digital illustration, and comic creation. In 2024, I participated in Phantasmagoria: A Digital Art Show, facilitated by Corrina Espinosa, as well as Love and Lust, a CU Sandbox art gallery. While I'm currently studying Art Practices at CU Boulder (along with a degree in English Literature and a minor in philosophy), I am mostly a self-taught artist. I have been engaging in the arts since I was young, partly because my mom is also an artist and she would always give me encouragement and artistic advice.
Since art has been a part of my life ever since I can remember, I have always described myself as an artist.
However, I started taking it more seriously in high school, especially during isolation in 2020, which gave me the time to improve my artistic abilities. This time also provided me with exposure to digital media and videos where people would create characters using Procreate, which sparked my interest in digital art. After getting Procreate, I learned how to do digital illustration and character creation. Using these skills, I was able to create a comic for the nonprofit organization Pop Culture Classroom called “Immigration at Angel Island,” as a part of their Colorful History collection, published in May 2024. My time with PCC gave me the knowledge to start making my own graphic novel, The Benson House, which is in the beginning stages of its creation. I want to create more projects like this in the future, combining my interests in writing, storytelling, and art.
A common subject that I gravitate toward is the human body and the human condition, which I present through a disturbing yet dreamlike vision that draws inspiration from the macabre and surrealism.
