For project 3 (projection mapping), I want to use a female mannequin I got recently and offer a feminist critique. The mannequin will operate as a representation of the female body, so the mannequin is intentional with the thought behind the work rather than being just an interesting object. I’m basing my project on the idea of ogling eyes on the female body and the phrase “my eyes are up here.” I plan to take this concept and bring a humorous spin on it by bringing those shifty eyes and placing them on parts of the female body, such as the face, breasts, and crotch, to instead bring attention to those areas, as if to say “My eyes are down here.”

I’ve already attempted this idea with the projection mapping lab, and it turned out well, so now I’m going to refine the details to perfect it. When I first conceptualized this idea, I was thinking about the performance element of the project and having eyes switch locations around the body, which could be interesting, but I don’t want to overcomplicate the process when sometimes simplicity is best. I liked the pink colors I used for the lab, as well as the static and the incorporation of text. I think what I’m going to change is including the whole mannequin rather than just the torso, and I also want to think of more interesting effects with the keyboard controls, such as the eyes stopping or changing the speed, and I also want to contemplate the background a little more. Additionally, I was considering overlaying a female nude drawing over the mannequin to bring more attention to the body, so I’ll try this and see how it looks.
