My initial idea for the zine is based on this story that I’ve been thinking about and creating in my head. It’s where this figure from an art piece steps out of the canvas and gets to experience the world, first with confusion, then admiration, and the figure eventually has to go back into the canvas. I imagine the style to be like a collage, and the figure is in a different style than its surroundings to show the separation between the painted figure and the real world.

Another idea that could be interesting is doing the opposite of this, where the artist gets to step into the painting/world of art. That is also another story that I’ve thought of, where this woman is painting a figure and he reaches out of the canvas and pulls her in. Together they can explore different famous paintings, but the real woman would look different from her painted surroundings, emphasizing how she doesn’t belong in the painted world. I think this idea is better because exploring the real world is boring compared to the painted world, and this idea also allows using many different art styles and colors as they explore different paintings.

Plan for the second idea: 12 pages, narrative= woman painting a male figure, the male figure moves/comes to life causing the woman to freak out, then the painting reaches out from the canvas offering for her to take his hand, the woman takes his hand, he pulls her into the canvas, she is transported into the painting that she was painting, then there’s a door to another painting, they go through many doors to many different paintings until they reach the door that leads back to her art studio, the male figure bids her farewell and the woman goes back into the real world, but when she looks at the canvas the male figure is in a different position than the one she painted (some sort of position that calls back to their journey together to show that it was real and she didn’t imagine it).

When they go to different paintings, they aren’t just walking through them, they should interact with it in some way.
