For Project 3, I am planning on depicting a section from a story that I intend to create into a graphic novel one day, called “Murderer’s Heart.” The premise of the story is that the main character gets into a car accident and has to have an emergency heart transplant, but the transplanted heart is a murderer’s. So, the murderer’s soul becomes a passenger in the main character’s body, and they have to battle for dominance and control over the body. This project will be a condensed version of that, where the beginning is real life, the animation takes place in the main character’s mind, and the ending returns to reality.
The beginning section will set up the story by explaining the accident, showing the surgery, and explaining the heart transplant. The animation will take place in the main character’s mind while they are unconscious, recovering from the surgery, and there they will meet the soul of the murderer. The two will engage in a battle, where the main character ends up losing. At the end, the main character wakes up in the recovery room, and they have a family member close by who asks how they are doing, and there will be a visual and auditory indication that the murderer is now the host of the body.
I am planning on involving members of my family to play certain roles. I will be the main character, my brother will be the murderer, and my parents will be the doctors and the concerned family member. I initially imagined this as a hand-drawn animation, and had the idea of recording my brother and I going through the motions for the battle scene so I could draw on top of it. If I do this, the animated characters will have a very simple design, and be distinguished by color. If I do the hand-drawn animation route, I might make it more like an animatic instead of a super smooth animation for time purposes. If I decided to use After Effects, I will probably draw the characters and move the limbs, but it will be a weird battle.
